Hiab's revolutionary new MEWP (Mobile Elevating Working Platform) system delivers a three-in-one crane that conforms to new EU rules whilst delivering 30% more lifting power, enchanced manoeuvrability and safety.
The technology defies many experts' belief that traditional truck-mounted cranes would no longer gain approval for elevating work platforms due to new EU standards. Once the system's fitted to one of Hiab's innovative machines, it becomes fully MEWP approved and ready for use.
It builds on the company's innovative ADC function, which provided two cranes in one, getting 30% extra lifting power. The new modification is achieved by fitting a key switch to the control system, turning the crane into a MEWP.
There's no need to reduce the overall capacity of the crane, providing maximum usability. The operator is also offered maximised vertical and horizontal speeds for the personnel basket fitted.
Development has been fast -10 different Hiab cranes models ranging from 12 to 47tm can be fitted with MEWP.
All requirements of the new standard, EN 280, which focuses on the enhanced safety of MEWPs, are met by Hiab's system. These include an automatic horizontal position control for the basket and an interlock that confirms the stabilisers are correctly extended, locked and supported. Additionally, a special hydraulic coupling system must be applied for all pressurised pipes used in the construction subject to the load.
Hiab's MEWP covers approval of all installations on the truck. Det Norske Veritas has set out directives on how assembly is to be carried out.
Hiab's personnel basket solution complies with European Standard EN 280.
